Once again I am joined by Brother Richard, author of the Life Without Faith blog and overlord of the Atheist Nexus social networking website. It looks like Brother Richard might becomes something of a fixture on this podcast (may god have mercy on us all.) This week we discuss Virginia’s House Resolution 34, sparing the rod and spoiling the child, “godless congregations,” the merits and drawbacks of de-baptism, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the second most awesome holy person since the atheist pastor and some more criminal stupidity from the mouth of the Pope.

This week, we also have a listener letter in which we address the possibility that Catholic Priests are nothing more than a cabal of kiddy diddlers. Or maybe something worse.

Don’t look for the stereo version of the show this week, from the e-mails I received, mono is simply more practical. Yes, I know. Stereo was way more awesome, but a large number of listeners do, in fact, listen with only one ear. Stereo makes the show unlistenable for them. For several practical reasons I am unable to do both, so mono it is. Thanks to everyone who wrote in to share their opinion.

Also, check the site for a new poll regarding this show.

Hello God? It’s me, Jim’s computer.

http://www.informationageprayer.com/

For only $49.95 per month, you can contract the services of the Information Age Prayer company to help you “show God you are serious,” and hire out one of their computers to say a rosary for you every day for a full month.

One of the oldest prayers, it is very powerful and can be used for important or pressing circumstances. It is especially good to say this prayer in church with a group of others. This prayer starts with the Apostles Creed and continues with a particular order going through mysteries one through five (see Prayer Text). The computer doesn’t need any beads to keep track of Hail Mary’s while saying this prayer, it will be voiced precisely the correct way each time for you without taking any breaks. Subscribe now to have this prayer said for you each day.

That’s right–using a text-to-speech program–a computer will say your prayers for you so that you don’t have to, and you don’t have to stop with the Rosary. You can get a Hail Mary for just $0.07 each! So you don’t feel like a total schmuck, a whopping 10% of the money you pay will go to charity. The FAQ section is especially mind-numbing. Either this person is a complete loon or a genius that has decided to cash in on Poe’s Law.

Unbelievable.

New poll: Stereo or Mono?

Posted by moJoe On March - 18 - 2009

We did a stereo and a mono podcast to see what everyone thought, but soon there will be only one. Let us know which you preferred. The poll is in the side-bar on the site. Go ahead and cast a vote.

Ok, the podcast blog is fixed

Posted by moJoe On March - 13 - 2009

I was a noob and I named my RSS feed and the path to my blogposts for the podcast the same thing. So, now the blogposts for the podcast will go in /podcasts and the RSS feed will stay /podcast.

And hey, if that didn’t make any sense, don’t worry about it. Obviously it didn’t make much sense to me either, else I wouldn’t have mucked it up in the first place.

Long story short, you may now read the full post and even stream the show when you click on the title to the article containing each podcast.

Something wonky with my feed…

Posted by moJoe On March - 11 - 2009

I believe that as soon as iTunes updates, you fine folks will be ready to download the podcast, and in fact, through a reader, I don’t think there is any problem. And, in fact, I can post the links to the podcast right here… but for some reason, when the article containing the mp3 is expanded, it doesn’t exist somehow. So if you try to click the title of the podcast, it will take you to an error page. I’ll get around to fix it soon.

So… now you know not to be alarmed.

Episode 001: Two days late and three dollars short

Posted by moJoe On March - 11 - 2009

The first episode of the Atheist News podcast is in now available for download.

This week’s co-host is that gallant southern gentleman that runs the Atheist Nexus, Brother Ricahard. In this weeks news, we discuss a few articles about the rise of atheism over the last two decades, we talk about some revealing statistics involving women and faith and we chit chat about the sorry state of the Oklahoma legislature. We also talk about religious freedom in the commonwealth, sin as a holiday, the startling relationship between the bible belt and pr0n, Catholics and accountability, and holy sodium for the nigh terminally stupid.

Again, a big thanks to Tim for my great intro music!

Episode 001: Stereo
Episode 001: Mono

I kind of like the podcast in stereo, but I’d be interested to hear what you all think. I can see how mono has some advantages…

For the curious, the Death Star is now fully operational. You can now subscribe to the podcast in both regular RSS as well as iTunes. Episode 000 is the show’s theme song if you want a little preview. My friend DJ Tim Blade made it for the show, thanks Tim!

Stay tuned,

This is the AtheistNews news blog that deals with current news of interest to atheists, agnostics, skeptics, humanists, Brights, rationals and infidels of all stripes.

The Atheist News site is (more or less) complete

Posted by moJoe On March - 6 - 2009

After several days of work, the Atheist News site is up and running. A big thanks to everyone who helped out!

The first podcast should be released early next week. Keep your fingers crossed, I am still trying to get my hands on a couple of pieces of equipment. I remain hopeful. I can’t say who my guest host is going to be this week because I have to confirm availability, but–worst case scenario–I’ll have Lamar or Eli on. I know, I know… sometimes we have to slum.

Posted by moJoe On March - 6 - 2009

Thanks for checking out the AtheistNews site. We haven’t put up a show yet, but when we do, this is where they will go. Check back next week or subscribe to our twitter feed and we’ll let you know whenever a new episode is available.
Meanwhile, check out our group on atheist nexus and, if you have something you’d like to share, feel free to post. It might just end up on the show or on the Chariots of Iron Podcast.
