First off, if you listen to the show and enjoy what we do, take the time to go vote for us for the 6th annual Podcast Awards!
If you get here today, on the 21st, you’ll still have time to nominate us under the religion category. TODAY IS THE LAST DAY, GO DO EET!
Podcast Name: Atheist News Podcast
Podcast URL: http://www.atheistnews.org/
Then, at the beginning of December, the voting opens up. If we manage to get nominated, you’ll be able to vote for us. You can vote once per day, so vote early and vote often! Don’t be a slack ass: at least vote once.
On the show this week we have quite a bit of listener mail. We cover teen sex… for some reason more or less totally unrelated to the listener mail we received, by the way. We also talk about Wiccans and cooperation toward common goals with religious groups.
Atheist news this week: yet ANOTHER gay pastor from Richard’s former church pops up, although this one is at least pretty cool. We talk about atheist activism in Muslim countries, exorcism and evolution as well.

The double standard between older female/young male and older male/young females has some basis in evolutionary psychology I believe.
In a primitive society, females bear a much bigger burden of risk from sex and reproduction. A male suffers very little from a teen pregnancy – at worst he is forced to take responsibility for his progeny, at best he gets to skip out of town and do it again somewhere else.
The female on the other hand is stuck with the child which has very little chance of survival without a supportive partner, and that’s if both child and mother survive childbirth.
It makes evolutionary sense for females to be much more wary of sex, and experience greater feelings of violation if they are taken advantage of. The justification for those differences may no longer be relevant to modern society but that won’t change how people feel about sex and those feelings should be respected.
Having said that, there are always exceptions to these generalities – young men who are as wary of sex as stereotypical young women, and young women who are as predatory as stereotypical men. So gender-neutral rules of conduct are probably a necessity.
Main things to keep in mind are education and consent. Make sure the kids know what they are doing, and understand that they can say no at any time.

You are evil for even talking about that URL, but thanks for the ammo for some payback I owe to someone.
